Some Key Beliefs of the Disciples
Open Communion
-
Communion is a celebration practiced at least weekly in Disciples churches.
-
All who believe in Jesus Christ are invited to the Lord's table.
Freedom of belief
-
The disciples have a well known saying in or denomination, "No creed but Christ"
-
Our tradition allows for the formation of ones own beliefs guided by the Bible and Prayer
-
One is to respect the beliefs developed by others and through conversations and study together our beliefs will grow and develop as individuals and as a church
Baptism by Immersion
-
Baptism is not done in the disciples tradition until one is able to understand how they are committing to Christ by being baptized and can make the decision to be baptized on their own
-
Our infants are dedicated and welcomed into the church family
-
Other forms of baptism are recognized by the church
Belief in the Oneness of Church
-
All Christians are called to act as Jesus did on earth and look for opportunities for witness and service
The Ministry of believers
